The Lethbridge Public Library provides essential services to the communities we serve.  Donations to the Library support our Mission and Vision and help us to expand our collections, programs and services.

Ways to Give

Monetary Donations:

Donate online through Canada Helps

LPL recognizes and appreciates the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations that invest in the Library’s collections, programs and services. Recognizing the financial investment made by our private supporters demonstrates the importance of these partners in the fulfillment of the Library’s mission.

Donor and Sponsor recognition is governed by Board Policy LB32 – Donations, Sponsorships and Naming.

All donations valued at $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

Donate your Time:

Tutor adult learners, help design our teen programs, or assist the Friends in raising funds for the Library! There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available at the Library.

Donate Materials:

The Library accepts donations of used books and other library materials that fall within the acceptable guidelines below. Donations of materials help to enhance our resources and services for the community. Items may be added to our collection, placed in the Friends of the Library sales, or offered to social service organizations. Donations of materials valued at $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

Materials accepted:

  • Less than 10 years old
  • Gently used and odor free
  • Classics/acclaimed authors

Materials NOT accepted:

  • Material that is older than 10 years of age
  • Materials in poor condition
  • Textbooks, magazines, encyclopedias, VHS, cassettes, CDs

Acceptable materials can be delivered during library open hours to the Service Entrance in the northwest corner of the Main Branch. Small quantities of acceptable materials may be delivered to any Customer Service desk at the Main or Crossings branches. All donations of materials are subject to the Library's acquisition, processing, and circulation policies and procedures.

Other Donations:

The Library accepts other donations including tickets and passes for our Lethbridge Presents program, program equipment and supplies, in-kind donations, and alternatives to cash donations such as bequests, life insurance and public securities.  There are also sponsorship opportunities available.  Contact us at 403-380-7341 to discuss your options for donating to the Library.

The City of Lethbridge Library Board is established under the Alberta Libraries Act and hopes to raise approximately $70,000 at an estimated cost of $6,000 this year, to be used for the expansion of programs and services.
